Her Last Friday

I cried.
She was a seven year old girl I never met
But I got a glimpse of her soul once
Captured in a photograph on the evening news

A beautiful Hispanic cherub
Long dark hair, twinkling brown eyes
A soul made of gold
With so many mysteries yet to unfold

I prayed.
When the reporter said she went missing
My heart stricken with worry
Yet for her parents' sake, held hope

The ear of God heard her final sound
And a few days later, her body was found

Now there was no chance she'd be okay
Miss Jorelys Rivera has passed away

Those respsonible for her harm
Will be brought down in due time
And pay a terrible, suitable price
For this most heinous crime

God strengthen the family
Of this fallen child
As they remember her essence
May they do so with a smile

Heal their broken hearts
Bind up their wounds
With the knowledge and hope
They will see her again soon

Take comfort in this
She will suffer no more
In the arms of Jehovah
Her soul now will soar

Far into the heavens
To the Savior's throne
She can rest now in glory
She'll be never alone
